SOPHIE IS COUNTY CHAMPION There is a new name on the Lady Ludlow Cup. Sophie Hillier from John O'Gaunt won a thrilling final against defending champion Sal Shayler from The Bedfordshire. Sophie took an early 2 hole lead, which Sal clawed back through eagle, birdie on 10 and 11. But Sophie wasn't finished. An excellent up and down on 13 and an even better one on 14 gave her the lead back before she holed a tricky 8 footer on 15 to halve and stay ahead. Sophie's par on 16 put her dormie and an excellent approach from an uncharacteristically wayward drive on 17 enabled her to close out the match. Read the full report

Past Captain's Captain, Anne Harris, took over the organising reins after Steve Hillier was called away for caddying duty. Eleanor Thomas from John O'Gaunt played excellent golf and for the 2nd time in a week just edged out the rest of the field with a score of 31 points. Well done again Eleanor! |

MARGARET WINS THE COUNTY CUP Margaret Osborne from Leighton Buzzard must have thought she would never play golf in the dry! The Janet Miller 2nd Division Spring Meeting was played in torrential rain, where Margaret, Sue Cribb from Bedfordshire, Jackie Edwards from Bedford and County and Yvonne Richards from Aspley Guise qualified for the County Cup. Luckily, Saturdawas a surprisingly pleasant day. Margaret pipped Yvonne in the semi final and Jackie beat Sue. Margaret played very solid golf in the final, and despite a great fight from Jackie, Margaret won 3&2. All the matches were played in excellent sporting spirit, and Margaret's thank-you speech echoed the thanks of everyone for the tremendous organisation. Congratulations Margaret!

SAL LEADS THE WAY IN CHAMPS County Championships were scheduled for 10/11/12 May, and at noon on 9 May, everyone expected that the competition would be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. Everyone except the team at host club Bedford and County that is. The 36 holes qualifying medal was played in amazing conditions and produced some equally amazing results, none finer than reigning champion, Sal Shayler, who shot a solid 1 under par total of 145. BRIDIE AND SAL JUST MISS OUT ON 3 IN A ROW On a wet day [that's beginning to sound familiar] in Newmarket, Sal Shayler from Bedfordshire and Bridie Quinn from South Beds set out to defend the East Region Foursomes title they have held since 2010. Despite two solid rounds, they were just beaten into 2nd place by 2 shots. More details to follow shortly.

SENIORS EDGE OUT 2ND TEAM AGAIN County Seniors Captain, Margot Norris had the entire day planned in meticulous detail...well all except the weather! The course at Leighton Buzzard was playing long with no run due to the wet conditions. That didn't bother the County Senior Team as they beat the 2nd Team for the 2nd year running. The matches were all played in the best spirit: competitive friendliness, and although County Vice Captain, Cess Holden, did her best by adding up the handicaps wrong - always in favour of the 2nd team funnily enough - the seniors finished up 5 - 3 winners. Well played all, especially Amy Crowson, whose debut was marked with a win.

GWEN BEATS THE WEATHER AND THE FIELD TO WIN JANET MILLER The Janet Miller Trophy always seems to be played in bad weather, and this year was unfortunately no different. But the weather didn't dampen the spirits of the 27 hardy souls who took part.
Gwen Walpole took the Janet Miller Trophy with the best gross score of the day [editor's note: must be the hair!] and Yvonne Richards won the best net score of the day in her first ever county competition. Click here for all the results.
