Handicap League

Competition Rules & Guidelines
1. The Shield League currently consists of clubs who play each other once during the year i.e. home one year, away the next.
2. If a club wishes to join the league, they must put their request in to the County Committee for the June/July meeting to allow for arrangements to be made for the following year.
3. League matches consist of seven players each side and are played off FULL handicap.
4. Associate members of BLCGA are permitted to play in this league (the EWGA handbook states that the only team an associate cannot play in is the County Team).
5. The Lady Captain decides the order of play and normally plays first.
6. Handicap limit is 35. If a club has difficulty in fielding a team with handicaps of less than 35, the club should contact either the County Captain or County Competitions Secretary for guidance.
7. Matches may be halved and the individual results of each match must be recorded on the result sheet.
8. Blank result sheets are given to County Delegates at the first committee meeting after the County AGM and are also available on the web site www.blcga.co.uk.
9. Results to be sent to the County Captain as soon as possible after the last match is played, but no later than the first week in September. Results can also be sent in on the web site here.
10. Matches are usually played during the week.
11. Ladies usually change for post match refreshments.

12. The home team provides post match refreshments at a nominal charge, unless a different arrangement is agreed between the clubs.
13. Where the course becomes unplayable during the match or the match has to be abandoned due to severe weather conditions and resumption of play or re-arrangement is not possible:
i. If a game in the match has played more than 9 holes the result of that game when play was abandoned will stand.
ii. If a game in the match has played less than 9 holes it will be deemed a halved game.
iii. If no games are played the match will be halved.
14. Changing a pre-arranged match date. All the clubs have busy diaries and it would be difficult to change a pre-arranged date.
i. In extra ordinary circumstances a club may request a change but it would up to the home club to decide if this is possible and such a request would have to be made at least 2 months before the pre-arranged date.
ii. In the event that a club cannot field a team they will forfeit the match.
15. If a player fails to arrive for a match the result for that game will be deemed to be 5 : 4 for the player in attendance.
16. If a player retires during a game, for whatever reason, a walkover is awarded to her opponent.
17. In the final analysis when all matches have been completed if two or more clubs are tied on points and games won, the County Shield will be shared.
